Conscious Breathing
This is more a post about anger. When you feel anger, take a moment to think about what its going to accomplish. In other words will screaming at traffic (or your gps) get you the results you desire? Or at a person, will acting out accomplish what you want? Will it get you the results you are after? I try and take deep breaths, I count to ten, I try to observe but not judge (the situation), it's called growing up.

Funny Is Funny
I don't watch SNL or listen to Prairie Home Companion. They're too self-aware to be funny. I'd rather watch Lucy or "The Beverly Hillbillies." #prematurecurmudgeon #square
You gotta laugh once in a while. And if that means watching Barney Fife accidentally drink some of Otis' moonshine, which somehow seemed to happen a lot (And you can laugh at that, too. It was part of Kotts comedy repertoire, and it was golden) go to youtube right now and look it up.
Have a good laugh at least once a day. And may the schwartz be with you!

Boredom Is A Terrible Thing To Taste
I was just thinking this morning how I love what they now call artisan bread. With breads getting such a bad rep I'm glad some people are unafraid to show their appreciation for it. Bread and baked goods are probably my two biggest weaknesses. Right now I'm picturing thick slices of homemade wheat bread, fresh organic butter and some sliced, North Carolina vine-ripened tomatoes bursting with flavor. What more do you need?
More to the point of this post, food doesn't have to be boring. And I think some people get in a rut (what usually happens with me) or they get too accustomed to convenience foods.
Try something new once in a while. And really taste it. Take your time chewing, get off the facebook and other useless social media sites like this blog, and really savor every bite.
I guess my point is, some of the healthiest people I know have a passion for food. But if you're not really paying attention to what you're putting in your mouth except when you decide to do Adkins, maybe your problem isn't calorie intake. Maybe you're just bored. And boredom is a terrible thing to taste. (Insert stock photo of mac and cheese from a box and can of soda here, and the fiber supplements you take because you haven't seen a fruit or a vegetable since "Schoolhouse Rock" was still on the air).

Every Body is Different
I've said something to this effect before and I think it bears repeating. I don't know why some people, male and female, can eat whatever they like and do whatever they like and feel just fine. They're not overweight or experiencing any pain and they're physically able to do pretty much whatever they want to do and need to do in their everyday lives, while others have to watch what they eat and move every day or they turn into an immobile blob on the couch that can't get up without experiencing sharp pain in their lower back.
Every body is different. Who knows why. But by all means, if you know you need to move, move!
Take a deep breath, thank the trees for fresh air, and do it!

Fitness In The Age Of Twitter
Warning: This is not a post about the good old days before microwave ovens and the Sony Walkman (Remember those? Anyone? Anyone?)
But I will keep this short and to the point.
We've gotten so used to doing things fast.
I don't work fast. I never could. I have to meticulously coil up my cellphone charger cord and place it neatly in the, see? You're already getting impatient.
That's why fitness and healthy eating has to be a way of life, not something you do to shed ten vanity pounds before the next office party.
Focus on the moment, not the desired outcome. Do it right the first time, and be patient.
That's all!
